Palau de la Música Catalana

The Palau de la Música Catalana was built between 1905 and 1908 by the modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner as the headquarters of the Orfeó Català, funded through public subscription. The building is located in the Sant Pere neighborhood, one of the most beautiful areas of Barcelona.

The Palau de la Música Catalana is an architectural gem of Catalan modernism, the only concert hall declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (December 4, 1997), and currently serves as an essential meeting point for the cultural and social life of Catalonia. It has also become a symbolic and sentimental heritage of a whole people who identify with its history.

The mission of the Fundació Orfeó Català-Palau de la Música Catalana is to promote music, with a special emphasis on choral singing, knowledge, and dissemination of cultural heritage, and to contribute to social cohesion. Since 2012, the Foundation has taken over the management and activities of the Palau de la Música Catalana and its choirs. This model simplifies the management of the Palau, optimizes its resources, and increases transparency. The Orfeó Català, public administrations, and patrons are represented in this structure. The Presidency of the Orfeó Català Association is also the Presidency of the OC-PMC Foundation.

Thus, a symbiotic relationship is established between the Palau de la Música Catalana and the Orfeó Català, giving uniqueness to the institution.

As an open, dynamic, and plural entity, through its activities, concerts, and choirs, the Palau promotes musical practice and education, knowledge of heritage, and the dissemination of culture among a diverse audience, reflecting Catalan society.

The Palau de la Música Catalana and the Orfeó Català are currently at a historic moment characterized by the recovery of the foundational values of the Orfeó Català as the main axis of the strategic positioning of this Foundation. Excellence, participation, social commitment, Catalan identity, and innovation are these values, the same ones that gave rise to the Orfeó Català in 1891, moved it to build the Palau in 1905, and now drive the institution forward.
